Second demonstration Saturday 16th
July:
The social obedience display team
have been in action again this time at Court Regis, Sittingbourne on
Saturday 16th July on what was a very hot afternoon.
We started with Mick with Maisie and
Anne with Mizzie putting on a good show of heel work, downs and recalls.
Roger with Ben and Lucy then
demonstrated controlling two dogs with simultaneous and individual commands.

To finish off, the demo team took to
the ring. The team was slightly different to last time we gave a display
with Pat and Zak on holiday and Janet with Puffin back from holiday. The
team once again gave good support to the event with nine dogs and handlers
taking part.

Team 'relaxing' after demo |

Thanks to the team for all the hard
work practicing each week and turning out to support the events. It is not
easy controlling the dogs in a show environment with all the strange
distractions around plus their desire to get back into the shade on a hot
afternoon.
Well done
everybody, your effort and commitment is appreciated.
Next demo will be at Labrador Rescue
on Sunday 4th September.

Third demonstration Sunday 4th September: On this sunny
afternoon Stockbury Dog Club demo team gave a social obedience display as
part of a well-attended Annual Labrador Rescue Reunion Day near Blue Bell
Village. The group included not just Labradors, but German Shepherds and a
Doberman, eliciting one-liners such as 'that's a funny looking Labrador'
from some of the cheekier spectators!
After a quick reminder run-through to settle everyone down and give Norman
and Charlie a quick look at the routine, which was new to them, we headed
into the arena. The members went through their well practiced routine while
Mick talked the crowd through the exercises, demonstrating amongst other
things:
- the dogs' ability to sit and stay as the owners walk away from them then
return or walk past
- come to the owner when commanded
- lie down or sit as commanded
- walk past other dogs under control
The arena was under the full glare of the afternoon sun, so who could blame
either Tia for deciding to leave the silly humans to it for a few seconds
while she sought shade, or Zac for refusing to sink his belly onto the hot,
rough ground! All in all, the dogs did very well and the crowd enjoyed the
spectacle, showing much appreciation as we were finishing off and leaving
the ring. In particular, Norman and Charlie did a grand job at short notice
to help swell the number of participants, not putting a foot wrong.
A couple of the display team and a couple of other Stockbury Dog Club folks
took the opportunity to sit their Bronze award after the demonstration, but
mostly the display group were content to return to the shade and relax with
an ice-lolly (for the dogs too!).
Thanks to Rhi (and Pepper) for the report and photos. |
