HUCKING

Sunday the 1st April 2007

Sunday April 1st we had our 1st pub walk of the year around the Hucking estate. A record turn out with 33 dogs and accompanying owners.
All dogs behaved walking through the 1st field with the sheep and then it was play time as they went off lead through the woods. It was nice to have the Great Dane club with us and see them enjoy themselves.
We only had one owner get 'knocked' over ( sorry no camera at the front ) and somehow that was by her own dog . Recall was good so don't know why they cannot do it at training
As we went up the old Drovers trail it was a great opportunity for certain dogs to find the MUD! And didn't they have fun.
Back though the woods and then on lead as there was more sheep.

Back at the cars dogs had a drink and then those who wanted ran to the pub for a well earned drink.

A big thank you to all who support the walks, it is nice to see so many.

If anyone has a favourite  walk they think would be ok for the club to do, please let us know.

Thank you to David Gregory for the pictures. Don't know what happened with Terry's. Not sure if it was camera or brain but none came out.

KINGS WOOD

Sunday the 3rd June 2007

On a nice sunny June morning twenty plus walkers and dogs met in the car park at Kings Wood, nr Challock ready to start the latest Stockbury Dog Club walk at 10:30.

The walk took us down the dog walker’s path then breaking away onto a convoluted circular route devised by Anne and Terry. This took us along more wooded pathways and open wide tracks, with Anne in the lead and Terry at the back making sure we all stayed together.
We stopped a couple of times to give some dogs a chance to return to the group and also for time to recover and give the dogs a drink.

Anne then lead us on up a slight hill along a path to rejoin the signed route.

Plenty of opportunity to have the dogs off lead and they made the most of it running around and generally having a good time. Always nice to see how social they are together and when necessary for the benefit of other walkers and cyclist how they can be are brought under closer control.

The dogs soon found a small pond by the track and then it was off up the hill by the little log house following the various tracks eventually ending up back to the car park at about 12:30 having covered just under four miles.

Time then for the dogs to take on more water get into the cars and for the handlers to take of the walking boots and get some air to their feet.

A very enjoyable walk and thanks again to Anne and Terry for arranging it.

HUCKING(2)

Sunday the 26th August 2007

For all the walks this year Anne has arranged good weather so we sent off in the sunshine to walk an alternative route around the Hucking estate to last time.  Leaving the Hook and Hatchet behind twenty dogs and seventeen handlers followed the path across to the wooded areas. Picking up various paths until we came to a path which was thought to take us to a viewpoint but was the path was overgrown. At this point the group split for a while, some of the 'adventurous'  ones setting off to find the viewpoint the others returning to the main path to continue the walk and to wait at an agreed meeting point further down the path..
With the two groups back together again we returned through more pretty countryside to the Hook and Hatchet for some much needed refreshment.

Once again a very enjoyable walk, thanks again to Anne and Terry for arranging it and to those who support the walks.

HUCKING(3)

Sunday the 23rd December 2007

Leaving home to drive up the motorway the fog was swirling around and thoughts were for a walk on a grey morning. As we drove along the fog started clearing and the sun was breaking though. So instead of the gray we set off on our walk on a lovely late December morning with the sun highlighting the remains of the mist.

With Terry or Anne checking ahead for sheep we went across the open areas on to the woodland paths pausing for the now obligatory group photograph.

Counting heads there were thirty of us accompanied by twenty seven or was it twenty eight dogs, not easy to count as they keep moving around.

On again through the gates thinking what a great way to spend a Sunday morning and watching so many dogs running free intermingling and enjoying themselves.

Following the path then across a field to the Hook and Hatchet the walk having taken about an hour and three quarters.

Back in the car park time the walk over time to get in the cars.

With the dogs safely in the cars time to relax with a drink and some chips.

Thanks Anne and Terry for organising another walk and to everybody who came along for their support.

CAPSTONE COUNTRY PARK

Sunday the 30th December 2007

WOW! What a turn out. The every popular end of year walk at Capstone exceeded previous years and set a new record for dogs attending one of our walks, thirty eight dogs accompanied by forty one people.
Quite a sight seeing all the dogs leaving the car park walking on lead up to the top field giving them a chance to settle down.

We then formed up in a big circle around Terry for a few minutes training. It went well until the off lead down when a few dogs broke their wait prompting a general move off across the field.

Following Anne along the paths and across the open spaces with dogs going always, chasing each other and generally having a good time.

The dogs as normal found any puddles that were around especially the muddy ones.

Some where a bit less muddy and ideal for a nice cooling drink before running off to join the others.

Further on we stopped and placed the dogs on lead while some horses went passed then took this opportunity for a group photograph.

Leaving the field and following the path up and down until we arrived back at the car park and the the cafe. The walk having taken one and a half hours covering a distance of 2.88 miles.

Time to have a drink and sample Anne's mince or apple pies, have a chat and relax.

While we relaxed the dogs that were with their handlers also took time out to look around or chill out.

Thanks once again to Anne and Terry for organising the walk and all of you for your support.

Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year.
